FAQ
Questions runners ask
The game in short.
- What counts as a run?
- A run you record with the app, on foot. Tap Start a run on the map, run, and tap Finish & claim. Cycling or driving doesn't count.
- A friend and I both ran the same street. Who owns it?
- Whoever ran it most recently. Run the street again and it is yours.
- What is an arena?
- The people you compete with. Your friends are one arena, and every group you join is another. The same run counts in all of them, so a street can be yours among your friends and a clubmate's in the club.
- Can I import runs from Strava, Garmin or my watch?
- Not yet. The app records runs itself. Garmin and Apple Health are coming.
- Does it keep recording with the screen off?
- Yes. The app keeps recording in the background, so the whole route counts. Pause when you stop for a light; discard a run and it claims nothing.
- Who can see where I run?
- Your friends and the members of your groups see your territory and how much ground you own. Nobody sees your GPS track, not even your friends, and people outside your arenas see nothing. The details are in the privacy policy.
- Does lost ground ever come back?
- Only by running it. Claims do not expire, so a street stays with the last runner through it until someone runs it again.
- What does it cost?
- Nothing. GainGround is free.
- How do I delete my account?
- In the app, under Profile, tap Delete account. Your profile, runs, territory, friendships and group memberships are deleted straight away. Ground that friends took from you before stays theirs.
