Terms of service
The short version: run for real, be decent to the people on your leaderboard, and watch the traffic.
The service
GainGround is a game. The app records your runs, turns them into territory and ranks you against your friends and the groups you join. By creating an account you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy.
Your account
One account per person, and you must be 16 or older. Keep your password to yourself; what happens under your login is yours. Pick a username that does not impersonate someone else or offend the people who will read it on a leaderboard.
Play fair
Territory only means something if the runs are real. So:
- Record runs you actually ran, on foot. No bikes, cars, trains or walks uploaded as runs.
- No fabricated or edited GPS data, and no tools that fake your location.
- Do not try to break the service, read other people's data or load it beyond normal use.
Rejected runs and suspended accounts
The app rejects runs that are not runs, have no usable GPS or duplicate another run, and tells you why. If we find an account cheating, we may remove its claims or close it. The rules of the game, including how much a run claims, can change as we balance it.
Run safely
You run on real streets. Watch the traffic, not the map. GainGround is not a fitness or medical service and gives no advice on how far or how hard to run. You are responsible for your own safety and for respecting the places you run through.
Availability
GainGround is provided as is, free of charge. We work to keep it running and your data safe, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors, and a run can fail to upload or claim. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses that follow from using or being unable to use the service.
Ending it
Delete your account in the app whenever you like; the privacy policy says what happens to your data. We may close accounts that break these terms.
Changes and contact
When these terms change, the date at the top changes with it, and we tell you in the app if the change matters. Continued use after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands.
